He acknowledges this and even makes peace with the person responsible for his mother's death. However, he pushes forward because it is the only way he can secure his people's freedom. He is willing to become the "bad guy" to ensure that their vision of a peaceful world is realized. It is important to note that Aaron is not the villain of this story, but rather the sacrifice.
