Review on "Classroom of The Elite "A short yet phenomenal psycho-thriller Anime Series. It's is a must-watch!

Not much psychological thriller anime has made a name in the anime fandom. Especially such types of anime are difficult to narrate and make the viewers eager for more. Well, that's not for Classroom of the Elite it topped the charts as one of the most loved psychological thrillers right off the hook. Classroom of the Elite is a Japanese light novel series which was later adapted into a manga and then into an anime series. This psychological thriller novel was written by Shogo Kinugasa and illustrated by Shunsaku Tomos. It was published on May 25, 2015, The anime premiered its first season of twelve episodes on July 12, 2017. Licensed by Funimation, it has also been released in Animax Asia in English dub. The anime is written by Aoi Akashiro and directed by Seiji Kishi and Hiroyuki Hashimoto art by Studio Lerche.

This popular anime series is all about students who joined a specialized academy that was designed to produce future leaders, where they do not just have to survive a strict academic curriculum but also have to get through different challenges that are made to give the students the first-hand experience of stress, tension, and pressure encountered by the nation's leaders. Anyone who fails to coop up with the situations laid before them is sure to drop out.

As the name suggests, there is an elite school or high school to be correct, just dedicated to cultivating the upcoming generation leaders, who will handle the future of Japan. Therefore, the school set up by the Japanese government called Tokyo Metropolitan Advanced Nurturing School that fosters and instructs its students to be the future elite leaders of Japan.

In this super-elite school, where every graduate is guaranteed to be accepted to the college of their choice, Though students are not allowed to leave their entire high school career, and communication is cut off with the outside. The living facilities are top-notch with a large school compound that has almost all necessary facilities like cafeteria, cafes, plaza, and much more and the students can enjoy them if they play the things right.

Students are judged as a classroom, based on merit, and points are awarded at the start of each month, In the beginning, each student is allotted 100,000 points which equates to 100,000 yen to spend on for the month inside the school but, soon they realize that this system is not as kind to the students as they initially thought it would be. Most of the class-D students from were close to broke by the start of the second month and not only that, but they've collectively failed their exam so severely that they are awarded zero points for the next month's living expenses. They won't starve, there are free hand-outs for students with no scores, but they won't be able to buy anything worthwhile, and students who fall too far behind will be expelled.

The series focusses on a boy named Kiyotaka Ayanokoji, who is a cunning mastermind, very analytical and observant but also monotonous, great manipulator of people, and probably should be in Class A except that he manufactured his scores on his entrance exam to get himself put in Class D. His life takes a turn when he befriends his two classmates, Suzune Horikita and Kikyo Kushida. The suspense continues with every episode besides just theoretical knowledge they have to face real-life challenges and hurdles or so-called survival tests. Every problem they face are very tough, and not just hard work can pull it off the students need to think rationally to succeed.

The story continues showing a fraction of Ayano's past and uneven plots. The MC keeps on the outsmarting other students,  giving all the credits to his friend Suzune Horikita. An incredible amount of scheming goes into the setup for the final episode. The final take us by surprise after Ayano finally reveals his true motives saying that in this world, winning is everything no matter what sacrifices are made.

Classroom of The Elite is not just a typical type of anime, it will make you think critically about its characters and appreciate the conflict of interests on both a personal level and the big picture. Dynamic story progression and ambitious character development backed by good story writing which makes this a must-watch. But unfortunately, there is no season two of this anime, and no official announcements are made about the next season.
Classroom of the Elite is currently streaming at Crunchyroll (subtitled) and on Funimation(dubbed)
